carb rebuild problem
 
i rebuilt a rochester 2bbl carb off my wifes 72 monte. float adjustment was good i put it on it started with no problem and runs beautiful but when the choke opens dies out any ideas

It sounds like there is a vacuum leak somewhere. I'd double check all vacuum lines, mounting gasket, etc for leaks. It could also be a fuel metering issue, but I'd check for vacuum leaks first since it is more common of a problem.

72 carb rebuid
 
i sprayed starter fluid around base plate thats where the leak is so ill reseat it today thanx for the help

72 carb rebuild update
 
took off the carb put a thin bead of sealer bolted it on and runs perfect. next project is the power steering pump on my 86 monte carlo ss limited edition. thanks again for the guidance, first time rebuilding carb not too bad:congrats:

There's probably some old gasket material of a slight imperfection in one of the mating surfaces if rtv sealer fixed it. I don't recommend using sealer on carb installations. I'd double check the surfaces to insure they are clean and flat. Tighten the carb down using a cross-cross pattern. Don't overtighten or the base of the carb might warp after a few heating/cooling cycles of the engine.
