anybody ever seen a boost CAI
hey guys jus wondering has anybody seen an intake the creates boost pressure? i saw a guy the had a CAI that he claimed created boost and he had a boost gauge that actually seemed to work rite, on a honda civic one that clearly didnt have a supercharger or a turbo. any ideas?

Im pretty sure those dont do anything but restrict. He probably wrote "boost" over the vacuum label with a permanent marker.

lol nah it was on a piller gauge and it was like sunpro

they do make something that forces a TINY bit more air into the engine, they sell them on almost all teh big car parts websites, but they dont really do anything.
|
Those little fans that run off the alternator that supposibly push air through into the engine? Nah, not much going on there. On a good day with a good system, they help up to like 4-5000 rpms (making people think they're getting more horsepower) but they actually prevent the engine from sucking in as much air as it needs at higher rpm's and speeds.

The only sort of intake tubing that could make boost by itself would be a ram air setup- but even then, you're not talking any measurable boost until some pretty high speeds- and even then the boost is still very very small.

the gauge was movin every time he hit the gas but is there a way to hook up a boost pressure gauge to a vacume line?
|
do you have the video of it? it might be easier for some of us to help you then
|
it was a guy i used to work with and he never poped the hood just speculation

Yes, it is possible to hook a boost gauge to a vac line. In fact, many boost gauges have boost and vac on the same gauge, with a 0 in the center.
Now if the gauge was boost only, then I have no idea. No electric turbo or anything like that is going to make enough boost when revving to move a gauge. |
