06 SS exhaust options

Hi everyone,
I am new to the forums and I have a few questions about modifying the exhaust on my 06 Monte Carlo SS. I want to make my exhaust more aggressive sounding, so i was considering either putting Flowmaster 40 series mufflers on or getting the Magnaflow catback system. I am also looking to increase the performance, so would the catback be the best route? The Magnaflow system is a little pricy so I was also considering going with just the muffler replacement and possibly adding the Hogan downpipe with the high flow cat. Which would be better as far as performance vs. price?

the cheapest thing to do would probably be cut the mufflers out all together and put straight pipes in, always loved how that sounded on a V8. i don't know how that does performance though, no exhuast company likes to make cliams on that :(. theo nly thing about the high flow cat that helps you is its larger diameter, so if you're getting a larger downpipe, then definitly go with the high flow cat, or no cat :). plus, the straight pipes are the cheapest thing you can get. just welding in a piece of pipe to replace the muffler :)

Straight pipes do sound mean as hell on a V8, but kills back pressure, which you get less power. I think on the V8SS, Flowmasters are the meanest sound mufflers. But best performances would be Magnaflow Cat-Back system with still sounds damn good on your car. From what I hear the Hogan Downpipe with high flow cat is well worth the money. If you have the money go with Magnaflow Catback, best performance and sounds pretty damngood. If not go with the Flowmaster's, best sounding mufflers on a V8. Either way can't lose.

I'm not sure about the back pressure issue, I'm going to ask in another post about that, and what the resonator delete does for you, but here is a clip of my MC with just the Magnaflow mufflers, and before I installed the K&N cold air intake. I may be biased, but my car seems to be MUCH more powerful than stock, no matter what the situation is. I need to get a clip of it in motion, though, because it sounds much better going down the road than sitting in the driveway.

Well, I finally made up my mind and decided to go with the magnaflow catback. I should have it installed sometime within the next two weeks. I'll let you all know how I like it.

Thanks Steven,
I need to make a new clip, I think it sounds better now with the K&N and a couple of months of breaking in the mufflers.. Tried your link to hear your MC, it doesn't work. :(

Try that, In the summer I'm going to switch over to Magnaflow cat-back. More performance and not quite as loud.
