Transmission Fluid change.

Hey Everyone,

I have recently noticed that my 2004 Monte Carlo SS with the 3.8 is shifting slower than normal probably. Could that be caused from the trans fluid? I known it hasn't been changed since I've owned it (125k miles). If so, what should the process look like? Steps and parts I'll need.

Thanks in advanced,
AJ

This is something that should be done every 50K, the fluid color should be a light red when completed. Best thing to do is check with a few Trans service locations and see what the cost is. some will change it all out some will exchange it. If you change is all out you look at new fluid, filter and a pan gasket. Most likely cost about 250 to 300.00 at most dealers Just had mine done at a local shop for $220.00. Good luck!

Parts are easy - trans fluid, filter, and a gasket.

Process is easy - drop trans pan, remove filter, replace filter seal, install new filter, install pan, fill most of the way, shift through gears, check/top off like normal.

I wouldn't count on it permanently fixing any trans issues though. It might help some issues, might temporarily fix other, may do nothing. If it's higher mileage or the fluid is torched, the trans may just be going bad.
