Default Service vehicle soon light??

How do I reset (turn off) my SVS light? Two years ago it illuminated due to a bad fuel filter and my local mechanic couldn't figure out how to reset it. So I dealt with it but I am sick of it now and can't get it to turn off. Hint... it's not through the radio. Any help??

Thanks

Vince

Ugghh... Autozone said they can't reset the SVS light, only the check engine codes. It seems as authorized GM only has to do it. I have a tough time with this one seeing that the car has been fine for 2 years since I changed the fuel filter. Anybody else have this happen?

I can't imagine the GM dealer would charge you a fortune to reset the light, so just take a small hit and get it done. Every day that your check engine light stays on, that puts your engine in danger, because you wont' know if it really does need service or not.

A standard OBD 2 scanner should clear the code. My dad got a scanner for $130 at sears, and its clears codes. It cleared the code on my mom's 2000 Bonneville with the same engine. I really don't understand why a mechanic could not figure it out, its really easy, you just hook up the scanner, and push the erase code button. That easy!

I agree, any scan tool will clear it. We have 7 at work (3 generic scan tools, the tech 2, Chrysler DRB III, and Ford NGS) and all 7 will clear codes in any vehicle made.
