RWD Project & Development

Quick introduction to an ongoing project we are going to be chipping away at through the shop.

Picked up a clean-title 2002 Monte Carlo SS chassis. Stripped the motor, transmission, interior, seats and etc. This is currently what it looks like...

As long as these cars have been out, I have always wanted them to be RWD. The owner of the salvage yard next to me has a pro street Monte he put together roughly 6 years ago, and the concept is really cool....but I want to build something super street-able that retains a mostly OEM appearance. In the process I am going to try and make all the suspension components as easy to reproduce as possible. I will keep this updated as much as possible as I progress.

Ive always wanted mine RWD also. I wish i had the skills and knowledge to even attempt a build like that. how much frame/suspension/tunneling are you going to do? or have you even gotten that far yet?

Definitely keep updates coming, and if you need another one to convert, dont hesitate to let me know......Good Luck!

I plan to retain the front aluminum subframe. Conveniently enough, there is basically a tunnel already on these floors (the exhaust runs right down the center stock). Transmission tunnel will need to be cut out, but a moderate sized driveshaft should have significant clearance. As for the rear of the car, I am not saying anything until I get further along.

We specialize in turbo LSx based swaps, so it's safe to say that there will be some kind of turbo LS based motor under the hood. I would like it to make some decent power.

I love hearing about these builds. Keep us posted. What would be a good ballpark estimate all together if I was to have this done by a professional?

Any updates on the project? Hope all is going well for it
