Rocker Moldings...
 

Hey guys, I'm sorry if this has been discussed but I haven't had any luck finding the topic. I have a white, 2006 LT. Like everyone here, I absolutely love the thing to death. My question is regarding the rocker moldings. As many of you know, GM got lazy and threw on the black/gray rocker moldings on many of the models. I'd love to have it match the rest of the body and get it painted white.

Have any of you gotten this done successfully? How much did you spend?

I just bought the 18" SS wheels as well, I'm really hoping to make it stand on it's own a little bit. Thanks for any help!!!

Should just be a simple paint job by any paint shop or local painter that you happen to know. Of course they'd have to match the color exactly using the paint codes for your car.
I'd shop around with some local paint shops if you don't know any painters. You don't necessarily have to go to the most expensive. But I wouldn't go with the cheapest either. I've found the hard way that when it comes to body or paint work, you get what you pay for.

I haven't had to get anything painted in many years (thankfully). So I wouldn't be able to tell you how much it would cost. Sorry. I can't imagine it would be too expensive. No complicated angles or curves to mask off. 95% of the car would be masked off. Simply masking off a straight line all the way around the car, prep and paint.

But I could be wrong.

Do you have any striping or graphics on the car to break up the white?

No, I don't have any striping but I've been considering it. I'm not sure what I want exactly. I love black on white quite a bit but I'll have to think it over. Any ideas?

to do it the correct way, i would remove the side skirts and then paint them. if you could remove them yourself and take them to a shop to be painted you'd save a little because they wouldn't have spend time masking off your car. just make sure they match your car when you pick them up.

i think they are textured plastic right? if they are youd be better off getin some off of an SS and paint them.

You're absolutely right and I was thinking about that too. I think I'm better off waiting until spring and going that route. Thanks a lot.

I actually painted the rockers on my red monte. They turned out OK. I wouldn't recommended it though. Being that there close to the ground its not that noticeable if its bad or not as long as its a dark color car. I've seen people paint there rockers on white and silver cars and it screams out GHETTO. Especially when it starts to peel on them and the gray shows.

I can't swear this is true but the saleswoman who located my LTZ said the ebony rocker covers denote a lesser end model.

The LTZ, SS, and possibly 3LT were the only models to get the body color rockers.

The '06 3LT didn't get them, mine's the black color, but it blends decently with the grey. I've no problem with mine as I plan on doing a full body kit in black in the future.

I certainly agree with the black on the white looking out of place, I remember two members who had theirs painted, one had a white Monte and the other a blue one. I'd say remove the panels yourself and take them in to the shop and see what they say about cost, different shops will quote you differently.

This is the 3LT I test drove before I purchased my LTZ. It too has the ebony rocker covers.
