quick question
I am almost 100% sure they made a 3.8L SS that was not SC in 2004. 2005 started the SC only being available on the SS models.
Below is a cut out on Edmunds...
Highlights for 2005
Standard OnStar assistance is the main 2005 change for the coupe cousins of Chevrolet's Impala sedans. Monte Carlo returns in base LS and top-line Supercharged SS models; in between, 2004's semisporty SS package is renamed LT. The LS comes with a 180-hp V6, the LT a 200-hp V6. The Supercharged SS has 240 hp, firmer suspension, 17-inch wheels vs. the other models' 16s, specific trim, plus chrome wheels as a new option. OnStar joins other linewide standard features, including front bucket seats, 4-speed automatic transmission, and 4-wheel disc brakes. ABS, traction control, and tire-pressure monitor are standard for LT and Supercharged SS, available for LS as a package. A driver-protecting side airbag is optional for LT and SS, but no front-passenger side airbag is offered. Satellite radio is optional.
News Our sources still forecast a heavy makeover for the 2006 Monte Carlo, as well as the related Impala sedan. This should emulate the latest Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick's new LaCrosse in giving the current model fairly extensive cosmetic and engineering changes. However, a rumored V8 option has apparently been postponed so Chevy can assess sales potential--and the effects a V8 Monte might have on meeting corporate average fuel economy standards.
