New car

Going to look at a mint 2003 monte carlo 3.4 sfi. One owner. 71k miles. Interior and exterior are in great shape. No accident reported. Anything I should be aware of?

Look for oil in the coolant or brown/tan crap (alot, not just regular moisture) on the oil cap. Make sure trans fluid is pink. Check for signs of head gasket failure, oily looking spots between the heads and the block.

To add to that list, look for signs of coolant where the lower intake and heads meet. The 3400 and 3800 engines are none for lower intake gasket leaks. Not horrible, but I feel the 3400 lower intake gaskets are more time to change than a 3800.

nice find with very low miles, I agree with above, but you gotta consider that the car is 16 + years old and not driven too much, its probably gonna need struts, tie-rods, sway bar bushings, ball joints, brakes, possible new cat etc! but most of which you can do yourself as time and money permits as long as the motor and rest of car is sound !! good luck!!
