New addition to the family

My dad just bought a new "work car". He says he wants to fix her up. Here's some pics:

He says she's got the 305 V8. Was that standard for the LS back then? If so, what was the difference between the LS and SS then?

yes back in those days the 305 and the 307 were the motor of choice for G.M. in the monte carlos.

As far as the SS gose they had a high out put 350 in them i belive. might have been a h.o. 305/307 but think it was the 350/.

with a 350 tranny orthe 350metric.

nice looking car for a project. a great platfourm for a nice street car with or with out a built motor in it.
Some day when i can do it i plan to find me a 3rdor 4th gen car as a project. or i will go find a first gen or second gen Camaro. still torn about that might have to just find away to get both LOL

Nice looking LS. It is an '86, 87, or 88?

Back in the 1980s the Montes got 2 engines. The standard 305 and the 305 High Output. Neither were that great of an engine. The 305 H O was rated at 185hp at the rear wheels. So it wasn't a real street killer engine.

ALL (or most) of the 4th gen owners on MonteSS boards say dump the stock 305 and slap in a decent 350 or bigger engine.

The car could have any one of about 4 transmissions. There was a 350TH, a 200-4R, ot metric 200-4R. My '86 LS has the metric 200-4R trans in it.

From what I hear, the DONK guys really go for the LS Montes. (they ain't getting mine)

And the LS has beome a target for thieves like the SS was/is.

Yeah 185 HP in an SS Monte is like saying "We're putting a 4 cylinder in a Vette."[sm=boosign.gif]

Well, they did cut back alot on HP in the 80's due to gas and emissions standards still in the 70's. I was actually supprised on another thread where the stock SuperCharged Monte's were going neck and neck with the old muscle cars of the 60's.

With this saturday being the first one of the month and I'm certain there will be a cruise-in at BurgerKing (ABOUT TIME!!) I went up and got the registration sticker for my '86 LS today.

Now to get him out of the garage and do a little maintainence on him so we can go to that cruise-in. [sm=icon_cheers.gif]
