If you are going to change the belt tensioner, make sure you change the BELT as well. Getting a new accessory drive belt can do wonders!

Could be a glazed or frayed belt too. I'd replace it all if you are going to change it.

got it done man what a pain it wasnt the tensoner, i had to replace the idler pully that was the sqeak so i had to drive to two differant auto parts stores 15 miles apart, to change the belt you have to remove the motor mount? wish i new that before hand, anyway sqeak is gone and all is good for now

You shouldn't have had to remove a motor mount...but I've not had to work on the 3.4 in a grand am. My 3.4 that was in my monte carlo though you did not have to do that.

my previous car was a 99 GA SE with a 3.4, and yes, I did have to take out the motor mount to get the belt off. I dunno how they expect anybody to do that roadside.
