1995-1999 Fifth Generation Monte Carlo
For the 1995 model year, the mid-size Lumina was split into two models with the sedan continuing as the Lumina and the coupe reviving the Monte Carlo nameplate for its fifth generation. Monte Carlo was available in two trims - LS and Z34. LS models were powered by the 3.1 L 3100 V6 putting out 160 hp @5000 rpm kW) and 185 ft·lbf while Z34s featured a a more powerful 3.4 LDOHC V6 engine with 215 hp and 220 ft·lbf .
2000-2005 Sixth Generation Monte Carlo
For 2000, Chevrolet not only again called upon GM Motorsports for design inspiration, but also to Monte Carlos of the past.A classic trait for 2000 was the return of the "Knight" badging, not seen on the Monte Carlo since 1988. From the NASCAR circuit came the aerodynamic styling and duck tail spoiler as well as myriad commemorative and special edition packages.
2006-2007 Seventh Generation
The base engine is a 3.5 LV6 producing 210 hp. The most notable news about the model, though, is the SS model's use of the Generation IV Small block V8 in a front-wheel drive car for the first time, and its first V8 since the 1988 model. The new 5.3 L V8 will produce 303 hp (226 kW). The car is 55.8 in high, 72.9 in wide, and 196.7 inches long

The Chevy Monte Carlo also called Chevrolet Monte Carlo is manufactured by the Chevrolet division of General Motors. Since its inception in 1970 to the present date, all the Monte Carlo cars have been 2-door coupes. The Chevy Monte Carlo was marketed as a personal luxury car from 1970 to 1980 and as a mid-size car from 1981 to 1988 and from 1995 to the present date. It has, in totality, evolved through six generations.


The design of the Monte Carlo was the brainstorm of Elliot M. (Pete) Estes, general manager of Chevrolet, and Chevrolet's chief stylist, Dave Holls. The design was reminiscent of that of Cadillac Eldorado with the addition of new front end sheetmetal, bulgier rear fenders, concealed windshield wipers and wider C-pillars. It was powered by a 350 cubic inch V8 engine with a two-barrel carburetor, churning out 250 horsepower at 4500 rpm. In 1983, a super sports version of the Chevrolet Monte Carlo was released called the Monte Carlo SS. It came with a rear spoiler, a V8 engine and was rear wheel drive. In 1984, the Monte Carlo SS came embellished with optional Strato bucket seats and floor console. The standard engine on the SS was the 229 cubic inch V6 that churned 125 horsepower and the 305 cubic inch V8 that stirred up 165 horsepower. Later on in the year a 350 cubic inch diesel engine was also available. The car was equipped with 3-speed automatic transmission. Towards the end of the year, the SS received 200-4R transmission with overdrive.


2006 marked the introduction of the seventh generation of Monte Carlo that is built around a FF W body. The production is presumed to be on till 2008.

The 2006 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is the first of the seventh generation of this car. Some do not believe that it deserves to start off a new generation, as restyling seems relatively minor to earn such a title.

I would like to know what the big deal is to you guys.... its just a title for your car. Those who care know that the 06-07 had many changes from the previous year. Correct me if I'm wrong, maybe there is some meaning to this I don't understand.. but at the time of this post don't understand the importance of the 06-07 being its own generation. Everyone on this forum knows your car is distinct from the rest, and easily recognized... so what does it matter?
