6th Gen ('00-'05): Monte Carlo Side Emblems
I couldn't find an answer to this, so I figured I would see what everyone thinks. I have noticed primarily in junkyards that some Montes have emblems behind the rear windows on the side of the car, while most don't. I ask this because a 2003 Monte SS that I am thinking of buying has them and I am curious what, if anything, it means. I searched through the sales brochures for each year and couldn't find that it was a part of any special packages. Is this a factory option or solely aftermarket? Any clarification would be appreciated!

I am assuming you are talking about this emblem and location.
The ones without an emblem there are the LS versions.
The ones with the emblem are a version of the SS.
They can say Monte Carlo, Supercharged, Intimidator, I have seen a Pacecar one too, but it might be a custom.
The pace car version may have the TAZ on it.
I see a bunch of unusual things on cars when I visit a salvage yard!
That is the one that is on the LS Version.
One last thing that I have just noticed now, is that on the bottom right on the trunk, it says 'Limited' in what appears to be a sticker decal. The only limited editions for 2003 were pace car editions or high sports correct? And they are differentiated by the gauge cluster saying limited on them, which again this car does not have. My best thinking is that the owner put a bunch of aftermarket decals on the car. You can even see on the wheels that there are small red bowtie emblems too, which again I do not think are factory.

I bought a 2002 new, has those on the nose and c-pillars, Chevy emblems on the wheels and trunk, and 'Monte Carlo' script on the left side of the trunk lid. Inside has a Chevy emblem on the wheel and a very small shield/monte emblem above the glove box. Very non-descript markings on the '02 LS. Still drive it, but it doesn't see salt anymore.
