MC LSX

So I've seen a few of these in my area, they are the Monte Carlo LSX. I am wondering if it is just a dealer-installed cosmetic package or if they are more. Can anyone enlighten me please? lol

RE: MC LSX

what year models do they look like they are? I do'nt think there were any like that in the 5-7th generations (1996-2007). It seems like I've heard of the 80's having an LSX though... a 4th generation expert would have to answer that question though.

RE: MC LSX

Hmm I have never heard of an LSX trim.
But could it be refering to the LSX family of motors. That would make it an 06-07 SS with an LS4.

RE: MC LSX

They were '00-'05's...There was an LSX in the 80's too...here is a link for a 2000 LSX:

RE: MC LSX

i've never heard of it either. i thought GM did LS, LT, and SS. and for our gen it was LS, LT, and Z/34

rysZ34 03-18-2008 09:01 AM

RE: MC LSX

No LT for gen bud. Just LS and Z34. Unless GM does things differently in Canada...Like the Chevy Optra...I had never seen/heard of one of those until I went on a bicycle tour of NS, PEI, and NB...lol. So I laughed at your story, couch, the reason being is because I had to google a conversion chart from Km to miles...and then a currency chart from $8,000 to whatever it is in U.S. dollars...oh the joys of working 3rd shift at a place that is dead at night. :o)

RE: MC LSX

te forth gen monte came in C.L trim 81-85 L.S trim in 86-88 and S.S trim 83-88 and i dont know of any other trim options for the forth gen !
the lsx is the new G.M performance block that is available as a crate motor
and as fr the cheap chevy cars we have in canada (like the optra) there just rebadged suzuki cars !

RE: MC LSX

No LSX in the 4th gens that I know of? Only the LS and that didn't appear till 1986.

The C.L. trim 88ss408 mentioned included different seat covers. If you've ever seen an '80s Olds or Buick with the pillow looking things attached to the seats that's what the C.L. Montesgot.

I think LSX means the car has either the LS-1 or LS-4 engine installed.

RE: MC LSX

Perdy, but an LS1 or 4 in an 00-05? Call me skeptical but I don't see to many dealers doing that. I know the '06-'07 SSs got the LS4 wasn't it? I've still never seen one with LSX instead of SS badging.

Maybe it's like the RS badges I found.

LSX
At the 2006 SEMA show, GM Performance Parts introduced the LSX engine, an all-new cast-iron racing block based on the LS7 engine. It was designed with help from drag racing legend Warren Johnson, and despite being based on GM's small-block design, it offers displacements ranging from 364 cubic inches to 511 cubic inches (4.25" Bore x 4.5" Stroke) and is capable of withstanding 2500 bhp. This block incorporates two extra rows of head-bolt holes per bank for increased clamping capacity. The six bolt steel main caps are the same ones used on the LS7 engine. The engine debuted at the auto show in a customized 1969 Camaro owned by Reggie Jackson. The LSX will be available starting the second quarter of 2007, set to be available in authorized dealerships and retailers on March 31, 2007.

I am going nuts trying to find out what an LSx is.

Looks like it is a performance tune-up and conversion:

RE: MC LSX

From what I've read on google (I don't know the dependability of that info sometimes), google relates 00-05 LSX trim with SLP. Whether or not it is a performance upgrade from SLP or just a trim package, I don't know.

What was the limited edition Monte that was available in '02 or '03? I know some of the members on 2kMC have talked about one.

Where's Cort when you need him?

RE: MC LSX

I would put money on it that is an SLP thing. They have stuff that say's LSX and I know they design the Grand Prix GTX so I would have to say SLP all the way

RE: MC LSX

Being a former member on a grand am forum, I think I may know what this is. The SLP explanation is on the right track.

'99-'05 Grand Am's only came in LS and GT models from the factory. Alot of GrandAm owners on the GA site I was on would mod their grand am GT, just like any other car enthusiast would. Adding turbos, NOS, and all the other performance and appearance mods out there.

These people wanted to distinguish their car as being more than a GT, so they would make-up their own model name. Made up model names included GTR, GTS, GTP, and GTX. GTX was the most popular. As we all know, if there's enough demand for something, the aftermarket will make it. I believe the 00-05 Monte LSX is an aftermarket company's (most likely SLP) creation for LS owners who want to improve the performance and looks of their Monte LS. It is most likely acollection of performance and appearance parts available for you to mod your LS Monte. Mostly a bunch of badges you can stick on your car to make people think your special.

I must admit, the black LSX car mats looks nice. If I had an LS Monte, I'd probably buy 'em.

LOL!

Sorry, RJ, I wasn't feeling well last night so I went to bed early. Still am not feeling all that well tonight, but didn't want to get too far behind on all the forums ... lol.

I recall several different limited editions in the 2000+ editions ... which one(s) are ya thinkin' of? ;)

As for the 80s ... NO ... NO LSXs.

1981-1982:
SCs (Sport Coupes) only

1983-1985:
SCs
SSs (Super Sports)

1986:
SCs
LSs (Luxury Sports)
SSs

1987-1988
LSs
SSs

CL = Custom Luxury and was an INTERIOR OPTION ONLY. It was NOT a separate model. It was available on (iirc) 1982-1988 SCs and LSs.... I don't recall it being an option in 1981....I'll have to check my brochure to be sure, tho....

I have an '81 MC SC:
http://www.chevyasylum.com/cort/mc19...07_13_JPG.html

...and an '87 MC LS (with CL package)....

Cort, why don't you ever bring the '81 SC to any of the Monte Nats?

Wish my g/f Deb's '81 SC was in as nice a shape as your car is. Mainly the landau roof, as in I wish it was gone.

RJ,

It WAS at the MC Nationals at Indianapolis in 2000. That year, I had all of my MCs (that I owned at the time) there...all parked in the Wash/Show section.

I believe you to be exactly correct. My experience with LSX is that it is a special designation from SLP for their product lines for Monte Carlo/Impala owners (has been used on f-body cars in the past too). This was not a factory designation/trim level or an engine reference. GTX/R have been used for Pontiacs.
