Magazine ad, 1998 Monte -- "Two Personalities"
1 Attachment(s)
Well, I came across this one-page ad for the 1998 Monte Carlo, found in a late-1997 issue of Motor Trend. Chevy marketing got some mileage out of the "dual-personality" theme for the revived Monte -- I think they even kept going with it into the 6th-gen. And in this ad, they mention the arrival of the Series II 3800. Nice & subtle checkered-flag reflection on that black Z34, too.
But who's that coming up fast on the inside, in the Corn Flakes Winston Cup car? I'm pretty bad at matching sponsors and drivers... maybe Terry Labonte? :drivin: https://montecarloforum.com/forum/at...7&d=1528523282 |
Nice find, I actually like it a lot as it seems to fit us die hard Monte owners. I mean with your Pace Car Edition when you have it out driving about, bet there are multiple personality times that show up in you. Your Monte just says try me when other drivers see it.
Will still never understand why Chevrolet would kill off such a famed name as Monte Carlo. Yeah okay put it on the back burner like before but to come right and say they will Never build another Monte Carlo is difficult to comprehend. |

Yep that's Terry Labonte. That's back when Nascar was really fun to watch; the CBS Sports and Ned Jarrett/Mike Joy broadcasting days. That Motor Trend issue would be leading into the year that Earnhardt got his 1998 Daytona 500 win

Actually, I was introduced to NASCAR by way of the IROC races -- a racing series that I miss. (Still got a few of those races on tape!)
Yeah, looking back, the '90s were good years for me; guess that factors into why I bought a car from that era, when it seemed there was actual variety in the automotive world. |
