Looking to Join the Monte Carlo Family

Howdy Everybody!

I'm starting to plan out my first "classic" or at least older car rebuild and I have found a plethora of mid 80's Monte Carlos in my area (Richmond, VA). I figured before I jumped into this pool head first I should ask around for people who have lived with these cars to see if I'm cruising for disaster. So if you all could read my ideas and hopes for a car and give me some helpful advice- good years, good motors, electrical issues and other chronic problems to be aware of it would be much appreciated.

I'm looking for a 4th generation Monte with a V8
I'm still pretty young so I would rather spend more time on the car than money (less than $5000 up front)
I'm capable of doing most engine work myself but might have problems with body and or interior.
I have a car that I drive everyday and could tow a monte around if I got one that didn't run.

Thanks for looking at my post and helping out if you can.

Welcome to the forum! There are good people here that can help you with just about any problem that you may run into. You are going to have to be a little more specific than that. It would all depend on what your end goals are for your Monte. Do you want a Lowrider, a Donk, a Drag Racer... Whichever path you take I wish you well!

Welcome to the site - If you're looking for a 4th gen SS I would try and get one as clean as possible (no or little rust) that your budget allows. Those came with a 305V-8 that got around 180 hp. A lot of people have pulled the original 305 and dropped in a 350 for better performance. mikesmontes.com specialize in parts for the 80's Montes. Good luck with your search.
