Default Lighter socket

I have a 01 SS and my lighter socket by the shifter doesnt work any more. I took it to the dealer and they want 100 just to look at it. I have looked around at it and I think i might need to take out the center console? can anyone help me? is there a special tool or anything that takes it right out. I have a replacement I just need to get it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated..

Is there not a fuse that controls current to that outlet? Try the fuse box first and see if anything is blown, before you tear the console apart.

I looked at everyfuse and tried to follow the wires they have power but the socket has none. Do you have to tear the console apart or is there another away?

Did you try the fuse panel on the passenger side?

My lighter went out on mine too and found that the fuse for it was in the passenger side panel...

if it is not the fuse and you think you need to replace it. look in a chiltons on how to take the shifter out. you just pop off the top of the center councial and it comes out with it. there is one screw holding it in place in teh front under the rubber mat and then it just pops up.
you need to take the shifter handel off first. and also make sure that yoru carfule when pulling it apart it has some wires under there that you have to watch out for also. but nothing to tuff they just plug in and out.
