2001 jeep cherokee xj build thread

got my tire carrier, well not quite done yet still need some cut and re-weld. my friend's dad made it for me. he didn't know if i want the tire to lean straight or back so he weld as he thinks how it suppose to look. i told him i want the tire to lean and rest on the bar behind it to keep it more stable so hope tomorrow he have it done.

Thats got to suck...each time you open the hatch you have to walk around it. (the tire) Not to mention then you have to try to lift it from the ground everytime to put it back in place... (100lbs of ouch)

Why noy just have it swing away (off to the side) to access the hatch? Kinda like the ole K 5 blazers..

That makes a little more sense to me....

It's nice but I agree with Stumpmi. I think I would get tired of lifting that tire all the time. Still I love the look you've got going on.

i guess i wouldn't say the tire weight exactly 100 lb. but yeah it's heavy. im going to make a video to show easy it is to lift the tire up and down and it's not that heavy like it looks.

i would love to have a swing out carrier, that was my orginal plan but since my bumper is custom build and it's already narrow as is, it's going to be little harder to weld another piece on. it can be done but more work and nobody like the headache. remember this is a home brew put together in your garage not some fancy pantsy tire carrier.

"it's a jeep thing that you never wouldn't understand" "your monte carlo is faster, but my jeep can go any where" LOL... just kidding don't get your panty in a bunch.

jerry if you look on the second pic below the tire on my first post there's a license bracket with 2 bolts on each side, that's where the license plate going to be relocate. i just have to go to auto store and mout LED light to the plate and rewire to the oringinal plate light.

trade a set of mickey thompson baja claw tires that i bought off craigslist to use for spare for a rock sliders plus $50. i couldn't passed up on that cuz the mt tires were pretty shots. had the sliders sand blasted cuz the previous owner sprayed bedliner on it and they look like a donkey's ass. going to primer it and painted flat black, oh also add more stickers lol.
