Fuel Pump

Did you guys go external fuel pump or dropped the tank and upgraded the stock pump for your builds? I’m hearing mixed opinions and don’t know the best direction to go.

Thanks

Personally I stuck with an in tank setup. IMO it's really personal preference though as either will work.

Here's what I did:
  • Dropped tank
  • Cut access panel / hole in floor for future repairs (which I'm glad i did as I've already had to use it)
  • Modified hanger to hold dual pumps, installed 2x AEM 340 lph E85 pumps
  • Drilled top hat for 2x 3/8" feed pass through fittings
  • Used stock 3/8" feed fitting as my return
  • Drilled top hat for new power / ground wires (kept as 4 separate wires so I could run one on a Hobbs later if I wanted to)

I will say, if you were going to run some hardcore race pump or something with a notable failure rate (like a A1000), I'd probably lean towards an external for ease of replacement.

On various other platforms, people have made 1k whp+ with dual and triple in tank setups, so it is doable unless you're making stupid power. Biggest thing for in tank IMO is to make sure you've got sufficient wire gauge (as stock likely isnt enough for a big pump or two) and sufficient flow capability coming out.
