Finally the Monte is LOOSE!!!

WOW, it's been like an ALL weekend project. Last MAJOR mod for the Monte, getting my powder coated brakes on with Goodridge braided stainless flex lines and switching the wheels over. Saturday I ran into some problems (a brake fitting not wanting to release and the final answer dumbfounded me, a set of vice grips that almost ALWAYS never do me ANY good, perfect) and then the one caliper was not seating right. Saturday ended with ALL day spent on 2 wheels.
Sunday, finished the front wheels, fresh oil change, put the 10 spokes on and took her off the jacks stands and jack. Next, move it, get the wife's Mustang out (which the Monte had to be moved first) and go over it to prep it for summer. At about 8:15pm, the Monte went on it's maiden voyage. The new Wizaird sounds GREAT sucking in air and when I romp on the thing, the sound I hear in the cabin is throaty and reminds me of a v8 (not bad for a car still riding on all stock from where the res was removed on back). I think all the mods I have attribute to the way the stock exhaust sounds on it. The "poly" upper radiator bushings I'm on the fence about. I do notice at stop signs/red lights a bit more vibration then I expected and I'm guessing the only assist they are providing is at launch. But I'll see. Looks good. I like the red/black combo you went with. Mine are all red and I am still on the fence if I want to paint the brackets silver to match the rotors.

Thanks guys (and thanks Space for pulling a good pic of my '84 Z28, when I can work on that car I am sure what gets done to that will far surpass my Monte).
It was a HECK of a lot of work (more then I expected) but it came with some great first time learning experiences. I had never rebuilt a caliper, now I've done 4 (and I will do 4 more for a friend's '94 Formula). The task was SUPER easy once I got the hang of it and had to re-research what I was doing. GM Nats, here we come :) |
