Drivers message center
 
In the drivers message center in the dash it says security....now I have to replace my key fob already but will that take care of the message....or what else could it be

Nah, your fob won't fix it. You have an issue with either the ignition cylinder, wiring to the cylinder, or the BCM. Ignition cylinder issue is most likely.

Wondering if it failing to turn over a few times before starting would be a clear sign of ignition cylinder

If the ignition takes a few tries every now and then before actually turning the car over and starting, would that confirm it's the ignition, or is that another problem in itself, and where could I find a BCM

The security system in these cars require three devices to be synced up: The PCM, BCM and chip on the ignition lock cylinder (NOT the ignition switch).


The BCM is located near the eBrake pedal and requires programming with a GM Tech II.


Best thing I could recommend, is if you can get it to a shop (most likely a dealership) that has a GM TechII, check for any security codes stored. If the security system activated, there has to be a code for it.
