Default Another 03 JG SS off the road. This car saved my life as well as my friends.

The title is the basic story. I was driving and totaled my 03JGSS number 1014 on the interstate.

Breif History. I have taken Three defensive driving courses. One when I first got my license, One when I bought my motorcycle, and got my motorcycle license, and a third for car insurance when my previous Defensive driving insurance discount ended. Actually took DD and Drivers ed with both of my passengers.

The long story. I live on LI in NY. Our major highway, 495, or the LIE is where I was driving.

2 Other occupants in my car.

I entered the queens area, still on the LIE. I was going 80. I read on an overhead sign there was an accident three exits up. I slowed it down to 70. Going up hill at that point. At the peak of the hill I saw dead stop traffic fifty feet ahead of me. I was in the left lane, with no shoulder, going 70. Right into a Lexus SUV. I knew I was going to crash the second I saw it. At that point I knew crash was imminent. I decided that I was going to save myself; and my occupants lives.

I slammed my car against the concrete divider, Threw it into neutral. Exactly what I was taught to do in DD; Ride the wall once my driver side tires gripped the wall and I was driving diagonally I let on to the breaks; and let go of the wheel; shielded my face and went limp. The impact was just past the tire; tword the center of my passenger side. I made it so my car; was an effective ramp. The lexus flipped 3/4 of the way and spun a bunch of times on its driver side door. I was wearing my belt, as was my front passenger, but my rear passenger wasnt. She is a tiny girl; about 4'11 and 90 pounds. She broke the passenger chair with her body weight, but stopped from going any farther.

The damages

My car was obviously totaled. The hood came through the windsheild, yet the windsheild held togeather. The engine bay was destroyed. I was ridiculed constantly by the 111th precint that responded for riding the wall the way I did. Parents ridiculed me constantly for riding the wall. Forced me to take DD with them to show me how wrong I was. So I take DD for the fourth time.

Half way though they start going into what to do when you KNOW your going to crash. First thing they said, was ride the wall and right before impact, let go of the wheel. Make your car into a ramp; and make it so the least amount of your car is going to impact the back of the car in front of you. Save your own life by doing this. Turns out my parents learned something new that day.

I will admit; The accident was my fault. I shouldnt have been going that fast. But, what I learned in defensive driving may have saved me and my friends lives.

No one was hurt. I myself sustained the most damaged. An inch long cut from a piece of glass headed tword my face, on my wrist. Noone needed to go to the hospital. The people I hit were uninsured illegal immigrants. I dont know whats happening with them, but I do have the peace of mind I only caused material damage, nothing physical.

TL;DR This monte carlo saved my life going 70 to 0. Jefferela meant alot to me, but the first thing I said when I bought her, to my mother was, I know itll save me going 50 to 0. Cause I crashed an 01 into the side of a bus a few years before who blocked five lanes of traffic without looking before turning. That one not my fault lol. I aimed for his tire, which saved myself.

Wow that's quite a story but it sounds like you knew exactly what to do and acted quick. Glad to hear you and everyone else are okay. Do you have any pictures of the car after the accident?

JG #1014 -- that car number sounds familiar. Were you ever on the JGMontecarloSS site? Donna Duffy and Bob Hall's site?

Most importantly, I hope everyone will be okay. That sucks about Jefferela though. The JG cars are the nicest of the signature series 6th gen Montes.

They say :
Its not the speed that kills..Its the sudden stop!

It sounds like one horrific crash! Glad to hear everyone walked away..and NO serious injuries occured!

Like Ashley said..Cars canbe replaced...People cant...Kudos for saveing all those lives!

Nowadays...Theres just way to many vehicles on the road....
Better to be safe than sorry...

The law in Michigan is....
If that unisured motorist wasnt on the road...The accident maynot have happened,
Thus, That person would have been charged with the accident.
I know this from 1st hand experience when I first started driveing and was hit by an unisured driver....

Man that is crazy. Good thing you knew what to do, i would not have known what to do. Good thing noone was hurt. Man i hate to hear that the car was totaled. Everyone makes mistakes, no telling what will happen to the Immigrants. That wasnt their lucky day. But now you have learned a lesson, and so have i, i have been in my fair share of accidents with my Monte.
