7th generation question

I just upgrade from an 03'ss to an 06'ss. I have 2 questions maybe somebody can answer.

1) Can you run regular octane 87 with the 5.3L ? What about 85 octane (ethanol). I noticed online it says to run Premium 91 octane. I live in Canada so hoping I don't have too because high test gas here is really expensive.

2) Can you get door side protective moldings install similar to what I had on my 03. These moldings I find really protect against door dings, something I'm super worried about with the car being black.

Thanks in advance.

Run the expensive fuel, it's not worth having the good engine and giving it the crappy gas.

The door moldings were done away with in 05, I'm sure it's something you could get put on, but I wouldn't worry too much about it, just keep a good wax on the car and try to be mindful where you park.

Well dammit, I love this car but the gas is going to kill me, o well. 100km to work and back each day. I was hoping the whole DOD thing would help but not much at 130km/h !

As for the side moldings, I wonder why they would stop that. I wax my cars usually 2 or 3 times a year and I'm the idiot who parks at the back of the parking lot by myself but still manage to get
dinged time to time. That was the great thing about my white 03', it barely showed any flaws in the paint.

It's really tough keeping a black car looking great (I know) But even with the side moldings, mine will manage to get dings.

Your car's computer (PCM) has a bunch of different fueling tables, if you run the cheap-o fuel (you can't run the E-85) but 87 octane, it will use a different fueling table and cause the car to pull a lot of power away so the engine doesn't knock. It's just not worth it to spring for the SS and not get the power from it.

if you want to run 87, we could do a straight up trade?!

Definitely run the 91, otherwise it was pretty much pointless to buy the V8!

Ok 91 octane it is, heading to the dealership now to pick it up !

Had the new car last night for the first time, holly fack, its like night and day compared to my previous 03 ss. This car has balls. I was even able to run the car at 125km/h in 4cyl mode. Can't wait to get my chrome rims on this weekend and about 8 layers of wax !!!
