Well, I did it, both driver and passenger. Was hoping to solve a slight shake in the front while driving... But now it seems to be worse! Hope I didn't create a new problem, made sure everything was put back on correctly, bought timken wheel hubs...could it be the tires or just the alignment now?

This is a great thread.
I think I have to do my front bearings on my 2003 Monte SS.
My car is 10 years old with 100,000 kms (65K miles)
There isn't any significant 'play' in the bearings but they are getting noisy.
I can hear it right thru the car.
Has anyone compared the TIMKEN part #513179 to the GM part #88964168?
In Canada I can get the TIMKEN for $137 and the GM part for $210.
I'm a believer in proper fitting GM parts but this is a significant savings.
I was wondering if the TIMKEN part is identical?
thanx for the related videos and information.

I bought the Timkens and have put about 15,000 miles on them since then. They've been great! (my issue was I also had a loose ball joint).

I ordered my front hub/bearing assemblies this morning. TIMKIN 513179.
thru a Canadian supplier with a great price and free shipping.
I picked up new bolts(6) and new axle nuts(2) last week from GM.
The bolts come with threadlocker on them already.
The nut was a 34mm... So I picked up a 34mm socket.
I suppose that they must have changed the axle nut size between 2000 and 2003???
It seems most of you have used a 36mm socket on your 2000-2001 Montes.

I'll tackle this job when the bearings arrive.
My Monte hasn't seen too many winters so I'm hoping it will come apart easily.
thanx

Yeah they seemed to change the part number of the hub assembly in 2002 as well.

Chris...
I wasn't aware that any of the hub bearing assemblies came with the 3 mounting bolts?
I don't see them in the pictures or referenced in the description.
I'll find out in a couple of weeks. If that's the case I can return the ones I bought from GM.
Thanx
Graham
