ZZP Vs OVerkill

So which one do you think is better in terms of canned tune?

looking at purchasing one in the very near future

I honestly have no idea about Overkill's PCM's, but I've been getting my PCM tuned many times since 2006 by ZZP and everytime the tune has been great.

red04montels 11-09-2011 06:16 PM

I've heard that Overkill is about the best way to go, that's where i'm going for my next tune.

Chevy Commando 11-09-2011 09:57 PM

I would not go back to zzp for a canned tune. If I ever got another canned tune, I would try someone else.

ChibiBlackSheep 11-10-2011 08:11 AM

Where do you live?

Will (overkill) lives in Canada and can be a little slow on some things.

SupplySgt 11-10-2011 08:18 AM

I've heard good things about overkill, but I prefer tuning things myself as opposed to canned tunes. That's just me and while I don't have access to a dyno to use when I tune, I generally start with a basic tune and then record data with my laptop to make appropriate corrections after that drive.

That being said, if I were to get a canned tune I would likely go with overkill.

im in canada, sent will an email, hopefully he gets back to me ASAP cause i'd want this by next Friday.

I wouldnt know where to start with tunning myself, and the car is pretty much stock, MAIN reason for this is getting rid of SES codes relating to having no cat (ordered a downpipe from ZZP) and will be removing the EGR as well.. and firmer shifts sounds nice :)

thanks for your imput!!

ChibiBlackSheep 11-10-2011 10:22 AM

If you are close to Will, he will actually let you drive to him, and do an in-car tune.

One Dark SS 11-10-2011 12:27 PM

Yeah, if i still lived in windsor that would be a 3h drive, but im in alberta now... the 80hour round trip isnt worth it at this point :)

One Dark SS 11-10-2011 02:04 PM

well, its ordered, told me he will ship out tomorrow and should have by thursday/friday

Cant wait to see what the fuss is all about :)

monte07 11-10-2011 05:07 PM

zzp is limited with only the 3800 powered vehicles. i am glad some one mentioned here about overkill. because i got a messege back that they can give me a tune for my 3.5. it is good to see that there is some one whocan do a wide veriety of tunes for our montes due to the wide types of engines

One Dark SS 11-10-2011 10:48 PM

ZZP does mainly deal with the 3800 platform but they do have a few things for the 3400, pcm tuning is one of them

biggriggs 11-12-2011 01:49 PM

Why delete the egr on a mostly stock car?

One Dark SS 11-12-2011 02:24 PM

because i have to replace it anyways... so id rather just remove it... as far as i understand, it may or may not result in any performance gains, but it wont do any harm either, we dont have emissions test here.. so 10$ to block it off vs 75$ for a new one... what would you do? :)

Your MPGs will go down.

One Dark SS 11-14-2011 04:14 PM

hum really? good to know.. i'll have to pay attention to it... thanks!

MAMONTE 11-15-2011 08:03 AM

I've never experienced a tune from ZZP, so I can't talk for it. However, I have the Overkill tune on my 3.5L, and I love it. Worth the money and time to work out a couple minor bugs. (crank re-learn, service traction control, and security re-learn).

One Dark SS 11-15-2011 11:26 AM

should be in tomorrow, hopefully it goes fairly smooth...

One Dark SS 11-16-2011 02:59 PM

ah man, what a difference!, and from what i hear its only going to get better over the next days! no problems at all, just had to relearn my key, took 30 seconds, no need for a CASE... the difference in torque off the line alone is well worth it, had a lil chirp dropping into second gear at WOT.. never had that before! (mind you the roads are a little wet but still!) now i cant compare to other tunes, this is my first.. but yeah, WOW, love it so far... downshifting happens so quickly too, very touchy for that, which i like!

SideWinder 11-17-2011 08:30 PM

Overkills in car tunes are the way to go, if you can figure out way to get too him. Will has tuned my car twice now. he really knows his stuff. But when it comes to generic tunes, you really cant expect a whole lot as every car responds differently to certain mods. but for getting rid of ses codes and stuff go with overkill as he is only one guy trying to make a difference.

One Dark SS 11-18-2011 08:18 AM

yeah, hopefully i'll be dirving down to Windsor sometime in august next year, tacking on 3 more hours to that short 40h drive should be worth it at that point!

Thanks again for everyones opinion!

gasman 12-01-2011 09:40 AM

ok i'll do a write up.. first i want to poit out that i really really wanted a over kill pcm. but i would e-mail will and he answered 1 out of the 5 e mails sent. i really liked the pcm and what it provided but could not get over the fact that his customer service was like CRAP. anyway my down pipe and high flow cat did not work well with my factor pcm and the gas millage suffered greatly so i went ahead and bought the zzp 1.0.

when i installed it it did not start up, i had to do a security re-learn it took me 2 tries but it took it. no more lights no crank sensor relarn or nothing needed. when it started up i could tell it was a lil something to it, because my pipes were louder. when i drove it around the 1 thing i could tell was the fact that this thang makes my transmittion shift gear constantly. when u mash the gas it down shifts then another upshift. when i marked it i could smell the exhaust when i walked behind it. my final thoughts is, its 'OK' i am going to get it custome tuned in the spring time since i'm going to drive up to their shop and hopefully then i can get the full experience of it. as of right now i have

-cold air intake
-down pipe
-spl exhaust
-180 t stat
-power log

next spring
-rockers
-smaller pully
-tune
*DONE*
