turbo 350 tranny with 4:10 gears as daily driver

Hi im new to this forum, well forums period. I need BIG help with my new car, i purchased it this way and not to sure what i have or need to do.

Its a 79 monte carlo 350 .40 over JE pistons, intake, headers,
flowmaster exhausts, cam, holley
750 carb, and 4:10 rearend, pretty big racing slicks,
it came with 2 and 2 regular front tires. But the Tranny is a Turbo 350 it does have a shift kit and 2500 stall converter. Everything rebuilt

My real question is i plan to use as a daily driver with some highway use, what are my best options until i get my 700r transmission in a year from now.

Will a performance radiator with engine and trans cooler along with some professional tranny tunning hold me off for a year for daily driving a minimal highway(slim to none) until i get my OD Tranny?

plz any help

Do you have temp guage? If so i'd just keep an eye on it, only thing you need to worrie about is if it is getting hot, really shouldn't be a problem

cxt35 12-21-2012 07:25 PM

yes there is one. Ok thanks will do but just for piece of mind i think i might get a performance radiator and trans/engine cooler to be on the safe side the car was alot of money and engine/tranny/drivetrain is all new <!-- -->http://images.craigslist.org/3Ke3Id3...6a148118cf.jpg

You'll be spinning 3400ish rpm at 65mph depending on tire size.I guys that drive on the highway at that rpm all the time.Like Budsjlm said keep an eye on the temp.
I run 3.73's at 65 I'm a round 3100rpm.I just don't spend a lot of time on the highways

cxt35 12-22-2012 02:52 PM

ok thanks very, good info to know. oh also Zen how are your rpms like driving in and around town you think i'll be ok for some daily driving with very little highway driving. with or without trans/eng cooler and performance radiator.

I did notice...you havent posted where your from. (state)

But, just to be safe...I would consider useing after market electric cooling fan or fans,That way should it start to run hot in traffic...you can switch them on and off as need be. To cool it down with no worries.

You would honestly save more money in gas buying a $500 beater car as a daily. Yes, you can daiy this, the gearing isn't so bad it will kill you, but even me with a pretty much stock 350, th350 tranny and 3.73 gears. I sucked gas like it was no ones business.

cxt35 12-22-2012 10:21 PM

ok thanks guys keep the advice cumn i can't have too much of it. By the way i'm from NE. And Im not too worried about gas mileage as u mentioned u can imagine how bad it is but the thrill of ridding in this beast is worth double or so in gas prices TRUST ME.

One more things TIRES size i don't wan't to run slicks forever and im sure i can't what size do you guys think, i will be getting them soon and plan on putting on all four same size tires i was thinking 255 60 15

Enzo354 12-22-2012 10:46 PM

Where from in NE? Also, trust me, it adds up so fast. The thrill is awesome, but it will make you hate life if money gets tight and it costs $8 just to run to the store.

I run 29 inch tall tires, if it is daily duty, get some regular tires that fit. What rims do you have? At most I would get some Nitto 555r's, those even wear decently quick and aren't exactly fun to drive with in the rain.

cxt35 12-22-2012 10:53 PM

my tires are 15" and what are 555's nittos what size is that is 255 60 15 anything close because thats what im lookin at

cxt35 12-22-2012 10:55 PM

oh yeah norfolk ne by the way, and what gears do you run and is it ok to get 4 matching tires

Enzo354 12-22-2012 11:11 PM

I was just in Norfolk today, and if it is a daily, get a decent set of normal tires for now, winter will suck with almost any performance tire. Just find something with good traction and wear rating.

What size of rims do you have, are the fronts smaller?

And I run 3.73 gears.

you don't think these front tires are too small for rear bcuz i have 4 total, they are 225 or 215 60 15, ive read posts about guys popping rear tires with 410s simply on take off is this true

cxt35 12-22-2012 11:27 PM

Enzo that awesome next time your here we will have to maybe go for a cruise. And when you say regular tire what do you mean. size example

Enzo354 12-22-2012 11:39 PM

You won't pop any tires lol. I would run 225/50/r15 in front, and I run 275/50/r15 in back. the way your car sits, if you can find something with a taller sidewall, go for it. Like a 275/60/r15

jakefluker 12-23-2012 10:28 AM

I have a 350 turbo tranny with hughes 2500 stall with trans cooler, temp guage, dual electric fans that are set to run all the time and have no issues on freeway.Sounds like you got all the right advice, thas a nice looking monte i had an 78 with 350sb etc was powder blue with white top clean in and out still miss it,will post pic of it in few days.what plans you have for monte?

This is HUGE. Electric fans help a lot anywhere. Probably the best money I spent on my Monte haha.

cxt35 12-24-2012 10:39 PM

Thanks for the info and yeah that is what i plan to due just get a performance radiator and dual 3100 cfm fans total and a trans/engine cooler and a 4 in 1 tach gauge water temp, oil pressure, rpms, volts. But my plan was to get this stuff in August 2013 along with the compltete interior let u know about later, but just to hold me off because i heard it is must to get OD transmission with the low gears 4:10s are you saying it is not neccessary with the extra cooling we'll have.. also i don't plan on doing very much driving for long distances past 55mph but i just want to be able to when i want though without having any issues thats why i'm investing in the 700r next January what do you think...
