Transmission question

i, as well as quite a few other people im sure, feel that one of the only downfalls to the newer monte carlo's, at least the 05 for sure, isn't made in 5 or 6 speed. it comes automatic... which i dislike. anyone know of how/where/what my options are so that i could go to get that changed out?

RE: Transmission question

That's a good question. I'm a believer that it should be an auto because it's more of a sports touring coupe, not a sports coupe. (Yes, I can drive a manual, I'm not saying that because I can't. LOL. [8D]) Although it would be fun to tool around in a 6 sp. Monte. I'm not sure what your options would be because most of the 6 spds. found with 3.8 Liters were F-body cars, rwd...I'm guessing maybe an aftermarket company like Jasper could make one? I really don't know. I'm bummed that GM is just now STARTING to invest in 6 spd autos with the Aura/Malibu/Equinox Sport. (even though theCadillacs have had 5 and 6 spds since like '01 or '02 andthe Equinox has had a 5 spd since its debut) GM has been making 5 and 6 spd autos for BMW for years. (5L80 in all 3-series BMW's)We get the 4T65 and some of us get the 4T65e. Our Tahoes get the 4L60. Our Silverados get the 4L60...Newer Escalades get the 5L80 and 6L80...That would be my gripe. :)(If my tranny model numbers are off, forgive me for I have a limited knowledge. lol)

RE: Transmission question

The 6 speed from the G6 has the same bell housing pattery. Difficult swap though, but do-able if you have the time.

If you want an older tranny, go with a Getrag from either the Beretta, or the 93-95 GP. I think it's either the 284 or the 282 Getrag... can't recall.

Why swap to a manual transmission that makes you slower? A well tuned 4T65 can outperform any human shift. With our powerband, you don't need more gears... it only creates opporunity for botched shifts, and slower times. :-)
