Transmission

I have a 1986 Chevy Monte Carlo LS with a mild 355 that I drive regularly and would like to know what to do to the transmission to beef if it up a bit and take it to the dragstrip. I would like to have it eventually making around 400-500 hp and survive it.

Any suggestions appreciated.

if its the 200-4r look up art carr he does alot of work with them and there are several articles written in car craft on beefing it and the 700-r4 up. if its a straight up street race car that isnt going to see much highway duty i would look into the th350. its lighter, plenty strong, and known for being able to give you the neck snapping shifts that the overdrives dont.

Try here. www.CKPerformance.com

Talk to Chris. I have his trans book and I can only tell you good thing about him. Most of the Turbo Buick guys and Monte SS guys go there. I rebuilted my trans using his book. Trans is awesome. Shift firm through all gears, but not harsh.

If the Turbo Buick guys can run the 200-4R safely in their car with his trans, you should have no problem.

Transmission

Thank you guys for the transmission info. I will be contacting CK Performance to have them do my transmission. Since its a 200-R4 car, I want to leave it that way. I just wanted a stronger trans so that if I need to, umm, enter the highway quicker (ha!) I will be able to do so without worry.
