SOMEONE, ANYONE check this out?! Posted in wrong section b4 HELP
 

Hey guys what's going on. I'm relatively new here, been doing a bunch of browsing and research.

So here's what I've got going on

2002 Dale Earnhardt edition ss (my car)
Did the l67 entire swap, 4t65eHD, and the wiring harness. So I bought a passenger side cv shaft due to it being different. Installed it, it clicked in to the Trans, slid it into the hub and it felt kind of short to me. I confirmed it was the right one and part number (purchased at advanced) so I proceeded to tighten down the hub nut....now when I tightened it down it kind of pulled the cv joint out, so the inner boot is extended way far out...and the cv became very loose inside the Trans, it can easily be wiggled around and I'm getting a Trans leak out of the brand new seal I put in. And a shake between 57-65 mph.

So I bought the right cv, installed it properly, but it doesn't seem to fit correctly? Is there a specific cv you have to use for this swap? Im confused, this is the only problem I had with the entire project. Please I need some info. Thanks

Have you tried a stock 04/05 l67 monte passenger shaft? I would think that would drop right in.

I don't have the stock shaft it was cut when I got the car I took the engine and Trans out of. The car was in a wreck and they cut the cvs. I got a "stock replacement" shaft from advance auto parts But like I said. It's too short it seems, it pulled the inner boot out, and pulled it out of the trans a bit. But it's supposed to be a direct fit shaft. That's why I'm confused.

I've heard of the parts stores selling you the wrong CV before, giving you one for the
L36/4T65 instead of the longer L67/4T65HD. I wonder if that's what happened?
Are you sure the donor trans. is an HD?

Wait. I thought the l67 cv was shorter because the HD diff housing is longer than the l36?? And yes it's an HD. Whole assembly engine and Trans and wiring came out of an 05 SS Monte

Yes, it's shorter. See the link below for interchange which says the output shaft is LONG, so the CV shaft would be shorter. Sorry for the confusion.

Also, just because the engine was an L67 doesn't mean it had the right trans. in it. You need to check the id tag near the differential. I believe the ID code is 4CAB

Somebody correct me if me and this info. is wrong.

Oh okay haha. Still so confused, I thought the l67 all came with the 4t65HD transmission? Which I'm positive mine is because I had to replace the differential and I purchased a new HD diff and housing for it, and the teeth, and splines were all the same count as the one that was removed from the Trans from factory.

Just because the car came with an 4T65e-HD doesn't mean it didn't get swapped out somewhere along the way. They can be swapped with a PCM tune.

The aftermarket shafts are typically junk compared to oem. I would try and find a stock 04/05 monte ss shaft at a junkyard/ebay etc.

If nothing else, you can make a hybrid axle between your 02's original axle and the new axle like the 5th gen guys do.
