Hello all, Thinking about getting some seafoam into my car. 03 monte carlo SS 3.8L with about 84500 miles on it. My car has major missfire issues, probably needsa tune, but I think ill try this. anyone ever done it on there carlo? heres something I found. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showth...hlight=seafoam. Now I never knew you can use this stuff in your oil, Yeah sounds crazy but heck if it cleans the damn carbon up , ill do it =). Just little uneasy because Im really new about this stuff.

 

i used it and it doesnt harm it. i have muiltple misfires on my monte carlo 2000 LS with 130,000 miles. it helped mine a little bit

 

thats cool. but what about your crankcase and cylinder banks?

 

yup, very easy to do, doesn't harm anything

here's what you do

start car
get it warmed up
pull vacume line off brake booster, stick line in can, suck 1/2 of can out
shut car off for 10 min
pour rest of can in gas tank

start up after 10 min, rev car until smoke mostly stops
drive hard for a little bit after your done

 

well i guess you can run 1/3 through the vacume line 1/3 through the gas tank and 1/3 in the oil, thtas what they reccomend, but i rarely put it in the oil, its more affective through the vacume line and gas tank

now when I pour this stuff into the vacume line, I have to make sure my engine doesnt stall out right. just pour slowly?

 

Yes, you pour most of it slowly on the edge of stall- then right when you get to the end of the can- you suck it up quick to stall it out. Let it sit a few minutes, then start it back up and drive it- thats when the smoke starts.

I will warn you to try it in a remote parking lot or something away from busy streets- the first time I did it on my gp (granted its catless)- it made a ~1/4 mile long by 20 foot wide cloud of smoke that really lingered- very dense too. Once I drove it for ~1/2 mile it greatly diminished, but the first time you get into it after killing the engine will likely make a lot of smoke.

However, if you say you have major misfire issues, I doubt its from carbon buildup or even anything a can of seafoam can fix. The only thing I could see happening is carbon building up inside the combustion chamber making for higher compression and knock- but you could tell if thats the case by trying a tankful of premium gas- although I doubt with that low mileage that you've got that kinda serious carbon buildup.

I think you should be more at doing a tune up and injector cleaning.

Did you get it checked out mechanicly or electrical? Such as bad wires or plugs. A worn cam will give you same sympthems but it would be all the time. A bad coil pack....
