Welcome to the forum.
Thanks for Joining the MCF Family  Is the trans full? ... Is it overfull? How many miles are on it? Most timesthese trans hit around 80,000 + miles and trans issues start to show up....It could also be something as simple as a shift solenoid. Maybe some one else will chime in with more ideas/suggestions... |
When I'm on the highway doing 60 my rpms are at around 4000

Just under 160000 fluid is full did see some shavings in the pan and tiny chunks not just real fine metal

But with 160,000 + miles on it.... My best guess..... Its time to get it rebuilt....:( |

Then I would recommend a soft rebuild..... or get a used trans....and hope its better than the one you have? |
If the tranny is bad how long would it take to swap it out? I do have experience and I have swapped fwd trans before just not in one of these Monte carlos

Another thing when I'm on the interstate and my rpms are at around 4g I let off the gas my rpms go down to idle then I press the gas to speed up it doesn't catch until I'm back up to 4gs and it does that in all gears like it is slipping I guess

Had the same issue with my '01. Splines on the OD shaft were gone so it couldn't lock into OD. Replaced it and it's back to around 2,000 rpm's at 70mph.
