i'll bet gm wanted to meet a certain fuel economy goal with these engines and tall gears helps a lot with that highway cruising. although it would be nice to have those 3.29s IMO. on the other hand, it's nice how fast our cars are on the top end

Thats exactly what its all about! Fuel Economy! But like you said, they do great top end. So its a trade off. To bad we could not switch to 3.29's off the line, and go back to 2.86's for cruising and highway power! LOL. Figure how to do that and we you'll be rich! LOL!

Yikes, what year is the car? That would be close to totalling some cars...

Was it the differential (the part all the way on the passenger side) or something else?

Thought the 7th Generation Monte V6 came with a 107MPH speed limiter, that's not much for top end power.

Power and Speed are 2 different things. (and who says you have to keep your limiter??:P)

X2 on what Mike said....Just because it has a speed limiter does not mean it won't go faster than the limited speed. The speed limiters are set to be slightly under the speed rating of the OEM tires.....

yeah the speed is limited to 107mph but from 70-107mph, they really go. that's the "top end" i was talking about. i'm sure w/o the limiter, we would really haul ***!!
