multiple misfires etc.........
 

i have a 2000 montecarlo 3.4 i just replaced the intake gasket,spark plugs and wires. made sure the plug wires were in proper order, now when i start the car it misses really bad! wasnt doing this before. i made sure everything was plugged in like before i started. i took the car to autozone and they said it showed multiple misfire code. does anyone have any advice on what my problem could be!?? everything was fine before i changed the intake gasket. thanks for any help.:rolleyes::mad:

I would double check your firing order, and make sure all injectors got plugged back in

:confused:ok so i replaced everything i mentioned earlier on my 2000 mc 3.4. it didnt start.took back apart and noticed that some pushrods were bent and broken! because i didnt have them in the right place. bought new ones, put them in right place and the car now misfires really bad! someone tells me i could now have bent valves! (the reason its missing so bad) is this true? if so, how hard is it to replace these or should i just look for used heads? thanks for any help!:confused::confused:

im no expert on any engine, let alone a 3.4 but i do believe you could have bent your valves, or your having an issue with the cam/crank/timing chain and dampener (i say this because of the bent/broken push rods)

have you removed your valve covers and looked around for anything that looks bent/broken?

valves are pretty easy to install, but you have to remove the heads...
once off you can see if you damaged a piston/piston ring or gouged the cylinder. also you can grind the valve seats to ensure a good fit for the new valves. you can also take this time to have the heads ported and polished if you wanted.

either way you cut it, your car has to have major surgery...


i am in no way ther most knowledgeable on these forums, once bumpin responds to your post take that as gospel.

i didnt have timing chain problems before this. car was running fine i was only changing the intake gasket.

Bending pushrods and valves causes a lot of stress on the engine, so it is very possible that cam/ crank and timing chain was damaged. You could have damaged a rocker as well. I've worked a 96 grand prix with a 3.4 that had the camshaft actually break in half. I would start by checking your compression, that will tell you what cylinders/ valves were damaged. A good cylinder will have roughly 150 psi of compression. If you lucky it may be only one bank.
