Default ls4 engine swap on 2004 monte

I was wondering what transmission would be good with the ls4 engine I have the engine coming in with all the components

Unfortunately there aren't really any choices when it comes to plug and play transmissions. The 4t65 is it.

Given the LS4's propensity to eat transmissions, I'd at least get a basic build from a place like Triple Edge - even if you're leaving the engine stock. If you're going to mod it, you'll want to opt for a higher end build. A lot cheaper to build it strong up front than to half build it, blow it, and have to do a brand new build.

Any other transmissions will require custom work. 4t80s have been done as have one or two manual transmissions - but all involve some level of modification to work.

What kind of power are you shooting for?

the ss ones come with the 4t65hd typle like the 3.8 super charged ones in 05 but stiffer chain in it. Because of the dod it has in it. Qould reak havock if it didn't have the hd trans in it.

TBH, HD doesn't really mean anything useful in terms of power handling for the 4t65. The only notable differences are the differential (which I've never seen fail outside of one wheel burnouts or the typical roll pin failures - neither associated with too much power) and converter size (not ever a failure point at any normal power level). The LS4 HD does add the best OEM chain available, but its nothing remotely comparable to a good aftermarket chain like the GMR 1".

But having personally owned a stock LS4 with its matching "HD" transmission and still having had it fail with gentle use, I'd never consider owning one without an aftermarket build.
