Default Starts....Stalls....Starts and runs.

Hello all,

I have an '05 Monte with the 3.8 L V6. It will fire and then immediately die. I replaced the air cleaner and that helped, but still some issues. It coded with "Bank 1 too rich". I replaced the MAF about a year ago. I am assuming injector issues, maybe fuel pump? It has 130K miles.

Any ideas would help.

Thank you

sounds like maybe the fuel presuure regulator

What causes the P0172 code?
  • A dirty mass air flow sensor overstating the amount of air entering the engine which may cause excessive fuel delivery
  • A bad oxygen sensor
  • A leaking fuel injector allowing too much fuel to enter the combustion chamber
  • A faulty fuel regulator, which may not be regulating the pressure of the going to the engine as it should
  • A vacuum leak
  • A possible fault in the coolant system such as a stuck thermostat or bad coolant temperature sensor
  • Worn spark plugs

I was also thinking fuel pressure regulator. Can you keep it alive if you give it a little gas?

You can also ohm the injectors to see if one is way off.
