how to get more power without breakin bank?

Looking for some cheapish ways to boost my cars performance. I started school again so my incomes a bit lower than usual. Im on a tight budget. Anyway, i was thinkin about getting one of those "turbonator" things but I've been hearing some bad reviews. Any other ideas? Whats ur guys' opinion on something like this?: Chevrolet Monte Carlo Supercharger Kit Electric Monte Carlo Turbo Charger Bolt On

Please don't tell me you're serious?

IMO, there's no way to make cheap power. Gotta pay to play. If you want to make real power it's going to cost. Boost is the best way to go. A supercharger kit or turbo kit is your best bet for gains. Possibly not realistic price wise but if you slowly collect used parts you could do it over time.

Also, I noticed your from Doon, IA. Where's that at, I've never heard of it lol? I'm from Webster City but I'm attending ISU currently

An intake would probably be a good place to start. You can make your own Fenderwell intake for about $50. Plenty of good write-ups on the forum, just gotta search for them :)

Then a U-bend delete and a resonator delete would work well next. Less restrictions in the exhaust a long with an intake is a great start, at least it was for me.

You have to pay to play.

Building a car on the "cheap" is never smart and in the end will cost you more. The only proper way to build a car cheaply is to have the fabrication skills to make everything yourself :D

Swap your mufflers for some sound, put a real cold air intake on the car and just enjoy it until you have the time and money to really mod.

Ha! I prolly should have been more specific on a price! xD when i say cheap, i mean like Short Ram Intake, new exhaust, fuel additive...i wasnt talkin about $25 cheap! And 01 Monte SS, u-bend and resonator delete? Is that a DIY kinda thing? How do you do it? Remember, im only 16 so i dont have too much wisdom or experience about this kinda stuff..n thanks chibi, I'll take that into consideration!

I was only 18 when I did headers and exhaust, which means no need to delete u-bend, I also struggled to change the oil at that time but you have to start somewhere and exhaust is a great place (can't really mess much up if everything's sealed) :) An exhaust shop can delete the u-bend and delete the resonator for probably $50-100. You could do it yourself if you're comfortable with your welding skills lol.

Don't do a short ram intake. I did that with my Monte and saw no benefit (I was also very un-informed and didn't post much around here) Just search for Fenderwell intake. Your best bet is to get a filter ($20-30) and some intake tubing ($10-20). Remove your stock airbox. Attach intake tubing on the throttle body and route it into the fender. Attach your filter to the tubing and try to seal the fender off from the engine bay if you want to. Getting cool air into that filter makes a big difference vs. a hot air intake which sucks heat that comes straight off your engine/exhaust/etc.

Mike, Chibi, has some great pics of the exhaust off the car. Maybe he can post them to fill you in on what these bends and resonators are :)

When I bought my SS, I found "The Turbonator" in the air intake hose. It performs better without it. Take it from me. It's a JOKE.

my ehaust system im getting put on my 01 is costin me right around $200-250 thats with dual magnaflow mufflers and all new pipe from the catback with resenator delete.

im 17 but some would say ahead of my age group when it comes to putting parts on cars, i dont have much knowledge about superchargers or turbos but thats why you have to ask questions around here, easier to gain knowledge when you ask i have found out lol.

my next goal for my car is the zzp supercharger kit, just got to get enough money saved up to buy it lol.

03JG Monte has a nice fender well intake. So does Zjerry. Here's the links to them...
