Help fellas !
Hey guys I need help figuring out one of the easist things, changing a belt lol, but I havent learned about belts. The belt I need to change is the closest to the acc drive on my SS, if any of you 7th gens are able to help, its the one right by the top engine cover. Im assuming my fuse box popped open a bit and it rubbed against the belt making it uneven to a point, so now its squeeling. I used the soap method to locate the problem, and its the belt.
Sooo anyone willing to let me know what belt this is? And if im understanding correctly i have to use a 15mm to loosen it and take it off. :wtf: |
There is only one belt. They make a tool to get to the tensioner to get the belt off but some people use a huge hose clamp to compress it.
|
what are you referring to hose clamp? lol, which part do I clamp down? And I figured it was only one belt.

There is a square opening in the tensioner bracket behind the pulley. A long handled ratchet or a breaker bar inserted into this opening will give you the leverage needed to overcome the spring pressure and remove the belt.
|
to be honest, I have no idea which one is the pulley. Im assuming the top one with kind of a insert looking thing like you said. but just pull it down and the pop the belt off and new one on? Seems easy enough, ive just never tackled belts before so...Im kinda curious and really ready to get rid of this squeeking. I gotta nice car, cant be squeeking !

Here's a narration of the procedure. As mentioned, you should be able to locate the tensioner by referring to the label. The 'serpentine tool' talked about is nothing more then a non-swivel breaker bar.
