ENGINE SWAP IN A 87 M/C

Which GM 350 crate motor would be the best bet for replacing my 305 in my stock 87 LS , Will all of the brackets, smog stuff, intake & exhaust manifolds fit. It will have to go thru emmisions . Would a 250hp or the 290hp GM be best ? Someone told me that there were some problems with the 290hp motor???

any motor will fit in no prob because they are all small block chevy's
if you are not looking for monster power and just a good working motor i would get a gm 350 short block and take everythinng off the 305 or even get the gm350 long block and just swap intake and pully's
if your town does smog testing the 350 should pass it with all the stock emission stuff

If I decide to build a 350 , What cam & heads would be best for the 350, that would work with the cpu and carb, and pass smog . Would any year 350 block work , I noticed some shops on ebay selling 350's but adding a note thattheyare for certian yearcars ,Iwant a little more power than the stock 305 but just a dirver, long trips no racing ,

i think if it was me any more it is cheaper to do the long block and or a creat motor. I would do the 355. stroker and enjoy it knowing that you have a warrenty also.

if you just want a good driver i would get a factory replacement long block from your local part store
everything is there except oil pan, valve covers, pully set up and intake, carb but you got all that stuff off your old motor just have to clean it up and put it on
i got one not to long ago for aguy's truck and it was around the 1900$ mark
or you can alwayz rebuilt your 305 with a stroker kit for like 1200$ (i think) plus machine work a sumit raceing cam 2020/2030/2040 cam work good in them

I am new here but when i did my engine swap from the 305 i went to Jegs and got the 330hp 350 long block from GM Performance Parts. It comes with a warrenty and just slipped right in and give me pretty decent power. Also this motor has four bolt mains so more strengh for add ons.

355 stroker? A 355 is just a .030" bored 350 block, same crank stroke of 3.48" I would definetly go 350 over rebuilding the 305. Most of the parts are the same, or similar. 350 is used more, might be a little cheaper.
