Engine light on please help
I was planning on doing my oil change today as routine and my light came on its about time to change the oil so I'm hoping it was just. Changed my oil cleaned the injectors (all at jiffy lube) and the light was still on. So the mechanic helps me run a code reader and all of a sudden its gone so I drive home (no codes were detected). When I decide to leave again like 1hour later I notice its back, so I drove back to jiffy lube and he reads the codes again and "p0301 cylinder misfire" is whats read my friend a mechanic is coming over to see the situation later today but he thinks its the spark plugs what should I do. Is the dealer my best bet because that's pricey and mom and pop garages scare me.

It could be caused by bad plugs, wires, coils or any number of other things. If it has never been tuned up start with the plugs and wires and go from there.

I would start with plugs/wires, but a dozen things can cause a misfire. It is best if you know someone with a scan tool that can read live data.
FWIW, I had a 5.3 Truck in the shop today with a 1,3,5,7 misfire, predominately cylinder 1. Did some diagnosing and found it had a bad bank 1 upstream O2 sensor causing the fuel trims to go way rich. Had to put a downstream and a set of plugs in it to fix them damage that had been done though. |
right well it has 1,3,5,7 all out on the same bank as that O2. he is only having #1 misfire. so its either the coil, plug, or wire. there is a slim chance it could be an injector... but check the plugs and wires first. you can use a volt meter to test the resistance of the wire vs the others and put a fresh set of plugs in. reset computer and you should be good

I was hoping to fix the plugs, but we notice the engine moves wayyyyy tooo much and we got under it, What we saw was bad motor mounts real bad motor mounts. My friend the mechanic says he can fix it. I'm not to knowledgeable about engines, so is this an easy fix? And can some one give me information about parts because auto zone has them going for $150 for the front mount and $50 for the other....whats my best move here, btw I hope I haven't damaged the engine because of it it kinda idles and drops a bit and I felt it fluttering

the engine mounts arent that big of a deal to fix. just need to jack up and support the engine and trans. then lower the cradle. swap the mounts and re-install. I know for the 3800 series engine there are both solid or fluid filled style mounts. the fluid ones fail, leak, and deflate. we recommend if your getting into performance to go solid but it will cause a little more vibration then the fluid ones.

The 2 mounts combined pay 6.5 hours.

did you address the plugs and wires yet? As far as the repairs go, its a green light mounts should ber here monday ill post pics just in case some one deals with thisProblem in the future |
