Easiest way to drop the tranny?

We are swapping trannys tomorrow on my 00 Monte Carlo. What is the best way to do this. We have never done any work on a Monte Carlo before?? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to all

there are some things that need to be removed befor detatching the trans like the cv shafts as well if there in the way the power steering lines as well as the rack and pinion. i just wanted to give you a heads up as to plan the way of attack.

and the undercarriage, and the wheel assembly's, and the list goes on and on and on. im very good mechanically, i helped a buddy change out a tranny in 03 grand prix and well im just gonna save up and let someone replace mine for me in febuary.

You have take it out with the engine and subframe, through the bottom, its not too bad with a lift, I've done it at work on several car (i'm a mechanic), I don't have a clue how to do it without a lift though

ratchet strape and a 4x4 across the strut towers, dangerous but only way. your right your suppose to just unhook the engine and subframe and just lift the car up off the engine and tranny and then disassemble. if you havent worked on cars your whole life you should not attempt tranny swap, alot can go wrong, especially if your tryin it in your drive way.

It took all day, but we got it out with a motor hoist. The engine and tranny came out together through the top. Now we just have to put it all back together. Fun huh??

hell ya. good job man. how much fun did you have gettin the one bolt out that sets in between the tranny and the motor. me and my buddy had to use like 6 extensions.

good wrenching I't will feel good when it's done knowing you did it yourself.

I did not to do. My hubby did it. I of course did help take a few bolts out here and there and.... mostly watch! I helped him lower the engine and tranny in. So just a few more bolts and wires and put the axle back in and we should have her running. It is just getting more exciting.:)
