Coolant issue

I have a 2000 LS and I keep losing coolant. My water pump was replaced in December. I amstill getting tthe Low Coolant light on. I am NOT overheating as my temperature gauge only goes halfway up and then starts coming down while I am stuck in traffic. While driving, the gauge only goes 1/4 of the way up. It was mentenioned that it could be my gaskets. Is there a way to check if it is my gaskets without taking anything apart? I am hoping that it's just the thermostat going. Has anyone else had this same problem? What was the diagnosis?

Do you have any wet spots under the right hand side of your motor? our cars are famous for the coolant elbows cracking and leaking, they are located under the alternator near the top of the motor. This is the first place I would check.

Next pull your oil dipstick and see what the oil looks like. You will notice a difference if there is coolant mixed in with the oil

The intake manifold also is famous for leaking and a replacement dorman is relatively cheap and easy.

There are members with more knowledge on this subject and will hopefully chime in, but I would start with checking the oil to ensure there is no coolant mixed in and if there is do not drive your car until you get it fixed as it will cause major problems, then check the coolant elbows

Ls wouldnt have the elbows, but lower intake manifold is verry common

I'll check the oil in the morning. If the oil is good, then I am looking at the thermostat?

Also check the coolant overflow for any contaminant like milk shake coloring... if so its the upper/lower intake gaskets..
Very common on our Montes.

Engine oil is clean. Overflow tank has no milkshake type residue in it.
