Hey guys.

I own a 2001 Monte SS and have developed a transmission issue.

About a month ago I was driving on the expressway and suddenly my check engine light came on and when I would press the accelerator or accelerating from a stop my car would jerk pretty bad. It did not stall out though when coming to a stop. I put a scanner up to it and got P0742 --- torque converter clutch circuit stuck on.

Fast forward to about a week and a half ago, it happens again. On the expressway the check engine light came on and same jerk when accelerating. My car now does it every 4 to 5 days.

The shop we took it too believes that the transmission is failing. After reading online there's a bit of conflicting information about it. My car doesn't stall out or my mileage hasn't been different which are the main symptoms of a bad solenoid.

So what's your guys' opinion? Thank you

 

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but usualy if the tc stays locked the means the tranny is failing. The ecm will detect slippage and lock the tc as sort of a limp mode to get it home. Question, when was the last filter change on the transmission?

 

I have not changed the filter since I've had the car. Got it at 109k and now at 134k.

 

Id try that first
