Angry Car turning off please help

i have a 2001 monte carlo with a top swap, i have encountered this prob. where my car turns on one min. then i drive lets say to school, while im driving everything i fine till i try and brake, when i let go of the gas and apply the break my rpms die out and the car turns off, then when i go back and try to turn it back out again nothing happens i have to keep turning the key on and off till it finally kicks in and turns on again. Today i was at the gas station and when i went to turn on the car it started up then died out did this about 5 times, so when i finally turned it on i had to keep the gas pressed to about 2000 rpms and ride the breaks at the same time so that the car would not turn off on me! If anyone knows wut might be causing this please help me out... thanks in advance.

keep pressing the clutch...kidding tho.

it sounds like it could be electrical or maybe an injector not feeding the gas or something

do you hear the fuel pump pretty well when the car starts? how many miles approximately are on the fuel pump?

maybe one of our more experience members will step in a little later, a lot of them are working now. but it sounds to me like its not getting enough fuel so the fuel pump could also be the issue or part of the issue

Anyone with a tuner you know could hook it up and see some values. Check for leaks and stuff, like vacuum lines and exhaust.

it might be a vacume line or two that needs to be looked into i would also find a dyno shop when you have a chance. the reson why i said the dyno shop is to see if a value of one of the settings may be out of its range do to the swap that you did. not just that it could be some thing staring at you so open when you have the hood open. not to be joking it could be a sensor or some thing simple like that. that's not pluged in throwing it is a safe limp mode to make it shut off

Well i had it scanned by a scanner at autozone and it threw 2 codes at me and those would be the 02 sensor the one that goes after the cat and the MAF sensor, which i think that might be it because i was talking to one of my buddies yesterday and he was giving me some troubleshooting advice to check the the car and he told me to disconnect the MAF and run it like that and see what it does.... so i did and the time that i was running the car like that, it did not shut down on my but the rpms did drop a couple of time but no shutting off.... i wounder if it would be the MAF?

Well its kinda had to find a tuner down here i will go to the guy that tunned my car, but i have had the top swap for almost a year already n no prob. at all is there a chance or a way the values can change on their own? leak? i dought it i have had a leak before and it flutters but does not do this prob. becuse like i said the car had trouble turning on sometimes i have to turn and turn the key till it accually turns on... i get power to all my components and i do hear the fuel pump when it is turning on, is it sending enough fuel who knows?!?! im down to either fuel injectors, fuel pump, MAF, or fuel filter....... n e thing else i should check?

Just check your fuel pressure. Could be that, the MAF, the MAP, or maybe a brake booster issue (if your car even has one), don't ever rule out a vacuum leak.

There's a schrader valve on your fuel rails that you can hook a guage up to to test your fuel pressure. That would rule that out. It's probably worth your time to replace the filter if you're still running the original one. They cost less than $10 and take just a few minutes to change. You can also try pulling the maf out and cleaning it with the special spray that is sold at parts stores.

You don't need a tuner/dyno to scan the car, you just need access to a scanner that can hook up to the OBD2 port (tuners have those, but so do handheld scanners and programs like autotap). Should be pretty easy to find someone nearby with some sort of scan tool.

Best of luck,
-Riggs.
