Block Heater

I have a new 2006 Monte Carlo LT, and I just learnt that the block heater is computer controlled to turn on at -18C (0F) when plugged in... This is rather too cold, if you ask me. My GM tech said that if this is over-ridden, then the engine light will turn on. The control is located in the plug end.

My question is, has anybody tried to put a normal end on? Just to see what happens?

RE: Block Heater

i would contact a PCM tuning company and ask them if it would modify these values. if not you could always find where the temp sensor is for the heater and throw a resistor in it to make it think its cooler then it really is. i dont know much about block heaters. but if there is a safe way to bypass the temp sensor i would do that.
