RE: 5 spd swap...?

Oh heck yes. A FWD tranny is much shorter, and the output shaft has to go left and right (to each wheel). RWD is longer, and just goes to the rear differential.

Your best bet is to get a 06 or newer MC, then look at the 06 Pontiac GTP's (I think) manual trans. They came with a 5 speed stock, so it's ready to bolt up to a 3500 or 3900 (I think either)

Only thing you have to do is re-setup the shifter linkage to the cockpit, because I know there's going to be something different, oh, and get all the electronics from a pontiac as well.

But that would be the easiest route.... because it'll be setup for the power of your engine and all.

RE: 5 spd swap...?

facts that i know, a 3.1 5spd will bolt up to 3100, 3400, 3800 / s/c, the 3800 s/c has been done on the beretta and handled the power, my monte has the 3400, and only weighs 600 lbs more? i believe, i only see modifiing or changing the c/v joints/shafts, i personally believe this may work, i stripped a 5spd beretta for all it was worth so i have all the nessisary parts, i'l look into the mock up some time soon, and its a 2005 monte carlo
