350 sbc Timing set. Whats Better & Why?

I recently heard about gear drive timing sets. I currently have a Cloyes double roller timing set. I hear one can get the gear drive noisey or quiet. I have not yet seen a vehicle with a set installed. Would one have to buy a new timing cover? Does it give more or less HP? I have a friend that told me to stay away from them but he aint seen or heard a set himself. Can someone with knowledge please help me decide?
Thanks

well im still new here but i do know a thing or two about sbc/bbc.a timing set really wont give a noticable hp increase.all you gain with a gear drive is the noise.sounds similar to a s/c.as far as the timing cover i would think you will have to buy one but not 100% on that.hope this helps

you also wouldnt have a chain that would stretch on you.

The upside to a gear drive is not having to worry about chain stretch; one of the downsides is they are usually more expensive.

If you've already got a chain setup that is in good shape- I'd leave it.
