3400 top swap

I'm curious what all is involved with a 3400 top swap to the 3100, and what all do you really gain. Is it even worth the effort?:rotfl: The 3400 top swap has been coming up alot in conversations between and friend and i and i'm just looking for a litle more info.

Not worth the effort at all.... Heads, LIM, UIM, TB, I think that's most of it. You would be better off going 3500 top swap.

Or just all out 3800 swap.

A lot more time, money and effort than it's worth to gain 20 HP. It's really not worth it as you're not going to gain much by doing it.

Edit: I see Mitch and I posted at the same time, I'd agree, if you actually want to gain something go with a full out 3800 swap.

I have plans laid out, i was just curious what all was involved and what you got out of it, but yea alot of work for not much gain.

easy to do....just get all the parts and extend a few sensor wires...oh and buy an adapter for the egr valve.....depending on year..for my 95 i had to....oh and you have to modify the throttle cable....

What's the run down on the 3500 top swap?

Mitch and Mike are right about the top swap. The gain is minimal, hardly worth the effort.
Actually, to be honest, you'd be better off swapping the ENTIRE 3100 for a 3400. You can probably pick up a complete running 3400 cheap, do some work while it's out of the car (such as head and LIM gaskets). Pop it in and have a direct upgrade.

The Grand Am guys with 3100's found this is a quick and easy swap for cheap HP gains and minimal effort. From what I've read it involves NO changes to the PCM, just move your sensors over. Do some digging, I know someone has a great write up from the N-Body world about this.

i got the hardware you need, heads, lim, uim, throttle body, for sale.. cheap!

If i were to ever do an engine swap on this car(no plans to) i'd probably go right for an L67, if you're gonna do a swap, might as well go all the way:rotfl: But like i said i do have plans laid out and they dont involve this car:rolleyes:
