2000 Monte SS

I was thinking of swapping out my 3.8 for a 3.4. I just want to know how difficult it would be to do and what are the pros and cons of doing that

01 Monte SS 09-26-2012 05:59 PM

why??

Jomao_o 09-26-2012 06:08 PM

Pulley?

Great if you have the supporting mods.
Bad idea if you don't have the supporting mods.

Jarhead2294 09-26-2012 06:09 PM

cause the 3.8 sounds like ****, unless you know of some mods I can do to make it sound better and get rid of the rasp.

Jomao_o 09-26-2012 06:14 PM

Keep the 3.8, much better motor, bigger aftermarket.

Jarhead2294 09-26-2012 06:18 PM

k i will keep the 3.8 then, but i just can't stand the raspiness of the motor.

You want to ditch your 3800 because of the sound? I would help you out but that's just ridiculous IMHO. Put some quiet flow mufflers or keep the stock setup if you don't like the rasp.

I have no experience with a 3.4, and very little with a 3.8, but to my knowledge the possibilities for modifying your 3800 go as far as your wallet allows. To eliminate the rasp, boost would help, my 3.8 exhaust sounds way different after I supercharged it.

Did you remove the resonator and cat? My 3800 in my 2001 is totally stock and it has no rasp at all.
