If I read your statement correct, the car is cranking? Do you know for SURE you're not getting spark (as I did not see any diagnostic listed that validates you're not getting spark)? Easy way to test is buy a inline spark tester (Harbor Freight sells them for like $5), you plug this item inbetween a coil and a wire, has a light that lights when it's getting spark.
I sense 2 possible issues. Now, I might be wrong, but it's just what I perceive based on what you provided:
1 - Dead battery (not enough amps to properly crank the starter to fire it up). Easy way to test that is "borrow" a battery from another car.
2 - Dead fuel pump. I don't know about the Monte's, but I know my '94 Grand Am has a test lead under the hood (jumper it to the positive part of the battery and if the fuel pump is good, you will hear it hum, if it's bad, you get nothering).
Here's an article to diagnose fuel related issues:

Ensure your battery is not bad. I've had batteries fail before right before I left for work, the starter would engage, try to crank and nothing (but you could hear it was a weak crank). Fully charge the battery and same results.
