Why is the LS so GOOD?? That’s the title of one of this week’s /DRIVE episodes. As you can see, the video below is all about the engineering behind the LS, and what really makes it one of the best platforms you could ever want for your project car. It doesn’t matter if it’s in a Corvette, a street truck, a classic muscle car, a supercar, or an off-road desert racer (a Chevy Monte Carlo , the LS is simply one of the best engine packages out there.

Honestly, just like /DRIVE, we could go on forever about the merits of the LS platform, and why it will go down in history as one of the best engines ever engineered. However, unlike /DRIVE, it won’t take us a full 19 minutes to explain just why the LS is so good. To do that, we will just show you the video below, taken at this year’s LS Fest.
It features a Corvette C6, a high speed bowl, and tire smoke. You’re welcome

Is there a thread here (dumb question) that tells if the LS and trans with fit in the 6th gen and what other changes would be needed to do such a swap?

The LS4 and 4t65HD does fit. It's a 5.3 ls engine set up for a fwd setup. Since it came in later years of monte carlo, the swap should be fairly straightforward. If you buy a wrecked monte/impala ss, that would be ideal as you'd have everything you need.

even wiring harness and plugs> plug and play that would change my hesitation for sure

Definitely not plug and play. It's been done on multiple monte carlos and impalas. Above is one example. He had to swap a ton of wiring to make it work. I'm sure you could do it with less part swapping, but it still isn't going to be a simple plug in.

IMO if you really want an LS powered wbody, just buy a monte/impala ss or a gp gxp. They're very cheap now and would hold their resale value much better than a hacked up swap car. Plus it'll be a lot more reliable too.
